Malemare installation. Claudia Washington, 2015-2019. Installation of crockery shards, dimension 700 x 700 cm. Production Scholarship for Visual Arts 7, Cultural Foundation of Curitiba. Museum of Engraving City of Curitiba, 2019.

SHEETS
Intimate Tear

The Malemare installation is born from the accumulation of pieces of crockery that takes the form of an autobiographical installation with teor fed by personal and other people's stories. Like a large-format book  that takes the symbolic body of ceramic fragments. When I moved to Brasília, I found in the quintal da casa a considerable amount of crockery and glass shards, which I started to collect.

The mobile, cutting, divisible, mineral materiality and the historical obscurity of the shard sets the tone for this arqueologia. A work that emerged by chance and that is understood as a tear in everyday life, your set is full of voids, unavoidable flaws, wounds in the hands that do not let you forget of the transitory property of us themselves, scattered shards. The stony ground shines in the hot sun scaldante, then unfriendly ends are distinguished from crockery shards that are gradually  collected. With each rain, like the diamond in the pan, others appear, until those on the surface  finally cease. It remains to dig. Faience and so many ceramic mixtures break out in earthy tones variant pastels, impregnated with the rust dust that until then had buried them. Panning cacos  involves delving into the ground and time. During the excavations, thoughts loom different, perhaps because of the posture of the body close to the earth, by the analysis of the sharp edges of the shards, by the super blue sky, the hot sun and the time happening. With each shard found, the surprised eyes learn the interrupted space. The shards go public to declare themselves as broken memory, no fundo we seek only the sun.

Video installation PLUMBUM! Claudia Washington. Video 43", 2015-16, loop; mirror and acrylic. Video capture at the mine: Flávio Rocha. Support: Lúcio de Araújo. Adrianópolis, Paraná, Brazil, 2015-16. Production Grant for Visual Arts 7, Fundação Cultural de Curitiba , 2019.

PLUMBUM!
Public Feature
PLUMBUM! A cynical onomatopoeia that denounces the public space as a place of (dis)agreements. É an investigation of a rock tunnel excavated in a deactivated lead mine 23 in an area with a high level of contamination by the mineral (Adrianópolis, Vale do Ribeira, Paraná). It deals with the the clash between natural exploitation, the generation of wealth and the so-called human development. O work results in videos and photographs of the mine mouth that inspire the contrasting relationships e complementary between the darkness of the tunnel and the metallic shine, possession, destitution, illness, misery,  wealth, between the Earth and the people. The video frames the open mouth of the mine, the initial image is static, the focus is lost in the darkness of the tunnel, little by little a lens movement takes us in towards the darkness that gradually takes up the entirety of the canvas, there is nothing to be seen, nos encontramos alone, there remains the feeling of prostration in front of the void.

BLOW
Collective Tear

The Sopro installation has three elements that constitute the so-called collective plot, that is, a work produced in a collaborative way. Based on participation in an international research group  on migration, a performance, a video and a poster were developed, o set of these expressions make up the installation.

One of the most striking memories of this experience is the memory of the sea, of the crossing to arrive in a place less dangerous than the land of origin, a constant reference in the speeches of migrants._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_This sea, of water and sand, of mountain and abyss requires a lot breath to be crossed, torn. The surface of this place of passage resembles a large sheet of paper, a whole plane that hides and sustains the bodies, envelops them. In the confrontation with the real, this image of the sea-paper is confused with the situation of the sans-papiers in France, who spend their days collecting papéis, documents of their existence, to prove that they are, therefore, the migrant body, marked by the rasgo de  crossing borders, has no right to appear and show its disquiet. It is from this lugar that the performance in question deals with the simple action of blowing a sheet of paper.

The poster and video are a synthesis of ideas from the event États Généraux des Migrations held by the Collectif du Livre Noir in Bobigny (France, 2018) with which I collaborated in the capture_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_of images, production of the poster and video documentary. The event was part of a process that  involves hundreds of local, national and international collectives and associations that act in favor of  migrant people, organizing public events to denounce current policies and act in order to obtain a radical change in migration policy.
